The authorities of the United Arab Emirates announced the names of the country’s two first astronauts
Monday, September 3, 2018. The authorities of the United Arab Emirates announced the names of the country’s two first astronauts — Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Nayadi. Astronauts completed advanced medical tests by Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos. Tests were held by specialists of Institute of Biomedical Problems. Now astronauts will undergo a six-month training before the flight to the ISS. The flight is planned on April, 2019. The selected astronaut’s first mission will take him on a 10-day mission to the ISS onboard the Russian spacecraft, Soyuz MS-12.

In August, at the Space Food Laboratory a meeting with UAE astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri and main candidates was held. At the meeting participants discussed issues concerning cooperation and development of space food set for UAE. The Space Food Laboratory highlighted the process of space food production for astronauts and presented samples of astronaut food.
